  • Asus m4a79xtd evo + f3-12800cl9d-4gbrl

Model of the motherboard: ASUS M4A79XTD EVO (bios revision 0704).
    Model of the memory: F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL.
Model of the CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition

I purchased this combo deal from Newegg. The RAM was giving me errors in memtest and the computer was freezing up. The motherboard would not let me change the timings on the RAM as it would always say: "overclocking failed". I RMA'ed the RAM and replaced it with the same model.

The computer is still (invariably) freezing or locking up on me. It freezes most often when playing CoD4:MW2 or playing videos in VLC.

What are the correct timings I should be using? Or is there anything I can do to alleviate this issue?

I've attempted (among so many other timings):

    MHz - 1600
    tCL - 9
    tRCD - 9
    tRP - 9
    tRAS - 24/27
    CR - 2T
    Voltage @ 1.5
(adjusting the HT voltage @ 1.4)

I've seen threads of users having similar issues (but all of them are running into the same issue w/no resolution):

    Thanks for your time.

What's your tRFC at, should be either 110 or 127 depending on available options.........also may have to increase voltage to CPU/MC

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

Try testing them individually to insure neither stick is defective.

I could not get any timings to work with Windows XP. I have tried installing Windows XP various times from various sources. Each time I thoroughly tested the installation media. I installed all of the service packs, etc. It always locked up.

I then installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with the following timings:

I have not had a lock up since. I'm glad it's working now.

For me, the issue was the OS. I'm not sure if it was corrupted or what... Windows XP has reached end of life, so I figure it's probably a ploy to push the user base to newer versions of Windows by messing up hardware compatibility.
