  • Strange bench from my Falcon 64

This is my Falcon where i have my windows 7 x64 installed and i just thought to run this bench , i havent ran any for over a year, and this is the result. I ran the bench from the same 7 x64 installed on the Falcon.

1 Should i run it from some other OS on another disk ?
    2 Will wiper restore performance?
3 Is that probably because i haven't used the wiper since i installed the OS ?
4 A matter of not enough free space maybe ?

5 Are the latest fw (2030 lets say?) allowing windows 7 to use trim on this SSD? if so are the results good?
6 What is the difference between "garbage collection" and TRIM ?

7 What are my options for using this SSD with XP ? To run Wiper every here and then ? Will it work if the fw is 2030 ?
8 With XP should i keep Intel Storage Manager or install the Rapid Storage Technology drivers?

    Thank you

        Hi monographix,

first, please use FW 1916 clean tool to erase bad block.
        then update to FW2030.
        FW 2030 supports TRIM.
This controller has already supported GC.
        Windows XP doesn't support TRIM.

TRIM command need OS and right firmware.

          Thank you G.Skill

          1. I should use the 1916 tool without first upgrade FW to 1916 ?

          2. Then i upgrade fw from 1571 to 2030 directly ?

          3. What are your suggestions about maintenance of my Falcon with XP ? (eg Wiper?) (or you suggest maybe i should not install XP on it ?)

          4. If i have Windows 7 installed on another physical drive, will that Windows 7 use TRIM on this separate Falcon that will have XP in it?

          5. What lines in the HDtune report indicate the bad blocks ? ( so i know how to check this myself next time )

          Thank you again
          Nick D.

step1: use FW 1916 clean tool then upgrade 1916.
            step2: upgrade to 2030
you have to install window 7 on this SSD then supports TRIM.
ID(C7) is the line, but yours is not warning, I just guess because your benchmark is terrible.
try to use newer HD Tune version.

              ok. thanks again for clearifying.

about my question No 4 though, does it work that way or Windows 7 trims only its own windows SSD drive and not other SSD drives installed in the pc?

What are your suggestions about wiper after i do all the steps you mentioned?

              Thanks!

sorry for not replying you earlier.

the answer is yes, because OS is window 7.

                  Its ok

                  I appreciate the support.

Pardon my persistance , english is not my native language (and my tech knowledge is limited here) i need sometimes little more elaboration for me to understand the replies.

                  So :

                  1. You mean that if for example in my Windows 7 PC i have some SSD drives (eg L:\ , K:\ etc) that they either have some other OS (XP, linux etc) installed or no OS at all (just data) wIll my Windows 7 installation (being for example on a Western Digital Caviar Black HDD) pass TRIM commands to those SSD drives?

                  2. Ιs wiper suggested to be used with fw 2030 ?

                  and one more

                  3. Is the 1916 clean function what they call Secure Erase ? (Indilinx "Sanitary Erase" ?)

Thank you again and appreciating your patience

                    Hi mate,

for your question, yes, it support trim even OS is not install in this SSD.
                    2, it doesn't matter.
                    3, yes, this is similar.
