  • Falcon slowing down

    Hello gskill!

I have g.skill falcon 64gb for more than a year now.
The problem started just recently when my pc takes too long to start and very slow. Opening a folder also takes time to open. Other program failed to start.
Restarting my pc, run my virus scan didnt solve the problem so i decided to reformat and reinstall the OS.
At first it was fine but after a day the problem back again.
Check the sdd using crystaldisk info it was 95% good.
So i decided to upgrade to the latest firmware (2030) hoping to resolve the issue.
After upgrading the F/W and reinstalling the OS the SSD is back to 100% good (using crystaldisk info).
But again the next day when i start up my pc the problem is back again.
I still have start up problems and pc gets slow.

    my pc specs:
    windows 7 ultimate x 64
    core i7 920
    asus rampage 2 extreme
    g.skill perfect storm 2gb x 3 F3-17066 RAM
    g.skill falcon 64gb ssd
    gtx 285 vcard

here's the latest screenshot of my falcon ssd:

CrystalDisk info shows that my ssd is now only 92% good and there's a warning on hd tune health status, does mean my ssd is dying?

    TIA.

This SSD got lots bad block.
Please use FW 1916 clean tool to erase Bad block.
please let me know the result after using clean tool.

        Hi vision,

backup your DATA, clean tool will erase SSD.

just follow the introduction to use FW 1916 clean tool then upgrade to FW 2030 again.

              ok i did the ff:
plug the jumper and restart pc then run FW1916 clean tool.

after cleaning i updated the FW1916.

remove the jumper and upgrade the FW again to FW 2030 (using usb boot drive).

when i check my ssd it's back to 100% good on crystaldisk info and everything is ok on hd tune health status.

so i install the OS (win 7 ultimate x 64) on the ssd since this will be my main OS drive.

after installing the OS i checked again the ssd health status and here's the result:

              crystaldisk info shows 100% good.

but running the hd tune health status shows again the warning status:

does this mean that my ssd is not fixed?
btw, the error count is increasing.

                Hi vision,

Actually the error count is decreasing.
                check the data value,
Did you get any problem from normal life.
if you feel uncomfortable, please RMA it.

                  Hello Gskill,

I'm still observing my ssd for a couple of days if it shows slowing down then I'll RMA it.

here's the latest screenshot of the health status:

the health status now goes down to 96%

                    Hi,
if you use the clean function with FW1916 again, you will get the health status of 100% again. It's the same, as my Falcon drive ... and I get the same "DMA CRC Error Count" with yellow warning! I think, it's normal on this Falcons, or ...?

Otherwise the drive is still realy fast!

                    Greetings from frog

                      Sorry guys,

this controller is not good at dealing bad block.
so it always increase bad block record in controller table.
                      it is error message.
use clean tool can erase its erroneous judgement.

                        Hi guys,

when i turned on my pc last night, i can't login to windows and it prompt to launch startup repair so i run it and luckily i was able to login to windows but some of the programs won't run and need to reinstall for it to run.
so i was able to do some work and play some games.

but this morning when i turned on my pc, it fails to login to windows again and prompt to launch startup repair so i run it again but this time it freezes. i restarted the pc and again it prompt launch startup repair but everytime i run windows startup repair it freezes and won't continue.

i booted to the other drive (w/ OS), so i can check my ssd but when i click the ssd drive it wont open anymore and the drive is not accessible.

i think my falcon is dying/deteriorating.
now i decided to RMA it since i run out of options and i don't want to do all over again the ssd clean/FW upgrade since i've done it twice already with the same problem/outcome.

btw, thanks Gskill for your support! really appreciate it.

                          Sorry vision,

we will replace a new one for you but I have to said.
This issue can't be fixed because flash went bad as time and controller defect.
