  • Need some help with my new ddr3 gskill RAMs

    i have
    core 2 quad q9400 2.66ghz cpu
    asus p5qc p45 chipset mb

    bought G.SKILL F3-10666CL9D-8GBXL RipjawsX DDR3 1333Mhz CL9 8GB (2x4GB) 2 days ago

with auto settings on everything in bios, i get memory errors in windows.
but if i use it at 1066mhz it works.
oh and in boot screen, with everything on auto, i can see the ddr3 1333mhz message, so i can say my MB sees it correctly. but if i run memtest86+ at boot, i get mem errors. when i run it at 1066mhz, i don't get any errors in test tho.

asus site says mb supports ddr3 1333mhz

i have no overclocking skills but i read some forums and ppl say that it's possible to use/change ram frequency/overclock and use it on various mainboards

sooo any opinions? i want to use my new rams at 1333mhz on my mb

thnx in advance for the help~

Do you have the latest BIOS? Is the FSB at 1333 or higher (required)? make sure timings and DRAM voltage are correct and may need to raise NB voltage + .05 ro .1

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

yes i have the latest BIOS.

everything is on [Auto] setting in BIOS, only DRAM frequency is set on DDR3-1066 at the moment.

i don't really want to overclock my system. can you help me with the BIOS settings, so i can use my RAM at it's normal values?

For it to run at 1333 the FSB needs to be at 1333 also, the DRAN can't run at a freq higher than the mobo FSB

Make sure you have the latest BIOS, 2103, can be found here:

            http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Int...P5QC/#download

then in the BIOS find the FSB setting which should be 1066 or already at 1333 - if at 1066 change to 1333. Then look for volatge settings and look for NB voltage add + .05 to + .1 to whatever the value is....

If any problem, give me a shout and I'll see if I still have a manual for this or will download one

i checked the FSB settings in BIOS. in AI Tweaker tab, my options are,

              Ai Overclock Tuner
              CPU Ratio Setting
              FSB Frequency
              PCIE Frequency
              FSB Strap to North Bridge
              DRAM Frequency
              DRAM Timin Control
              and so on...

i remind you that all options but DRAM Frequency are on Auto. DRAM Frequency is on DDR3-1066 at the moment

FSB Frequency Valid input values are between 200 and 800. i can't see anything past 800.
for FSB Strap to North Bridge, i can pick values like 266, 333, 400, etc. but stil there is no option like 1333.

FSB freq you'll want 333 which will get to 1333 (333x4, 400x4 = 1600, etc), then can change DRAM freq manually to 1333

i have to change Ai Overclock Tuner setting to MAnual to change the FSB Frequency
But when i do that i get PCIE Frequency opiton unlocked and it shows 100 as it's value. is that default and correct? because i cant pick Auto on PCIE Frequency when i turn the Ai Overclock Tuner setting to Manual.

so after i do what you say the final settings should be look like this:

                  Ai Overclock Tuner Manual
                  CPU Ratio Setting Auto
                  FSB Frequency 333
                  PCIE Frequency 100
FSB Strap to North Bridge Auto
                  DRAM Frequency DDR3-1333
                  DRAM Timing Control Auto

                  is that correct?

by the way, everytime i pick DDR3-1333 manually for DRAM Frequency setting, my computer doesn't boot, and i put my old RAMs back to their place to boot the PC first to change them back to DDR3s.

Yes PCIE stays at 100, might want to try in the other two slots, may want to run Memtest on each stick by itself to make sure neither is bad (Memttest takes a long time, so might just want to start w/ 4-5 passes)

i ran the mem test. when i do all options auto in BIOS i got errors.
but when i switch back to DDR3-1066 setting, i didn't get any errors.

So if i change my BIOS settings like this, it'll be ok right?

                      Ai Overclock Tuner Manual
                      CPU Ratio Setting Auto
                      FSB Frequency 333
                      PCIE Frequency 100
FSB Strap to North Bridge Auto
                      DRAM Frequency DDR3-1333
                      DRAM Timing Control Auto

                          i tried these settings:

                          Ai Overclock Tuner Manual
                          CPU Ratio Setting Auto
                          FSB Frequency 333
                          PCIE Frequency 100
FSB Strap to North Bridge Auto
                          DRAM Frequency Auto
                          DRAM Timing Control Auto

on boot screen it shows DDR3-1333mhz but after windows start i'm still getting errors.
and in BIOS CPU temperature increased.
                          from 70C to 90C

                            now trying:

                            Ai Overclock Tuner Manual
                            CPU Ratio Setting Auto
                            FSB Frequency 333
                            PCIE Frequency 100
FSB Strap to North Bridge Auto
                            DRAM Frequency DDR3-1333
                            DRAM Timing Control Auto

                            no errors so far. but something cought my eye;
                            in BIOS +12V shows 12.04 V
                            but in hardware monitor it's 11.88 V

here's the screenshot in idle desktop state:

                              Ai Overclock Tuner Manual
                              CPU Ratio Setting 8.0
                              FSB Frequency 333
                              PCIE Frequency 100
FSB Strap to North Bridge 333mhz
                              DRAM Frequency DDR3-1333
                              DRAM Timing Control Auto
