Hopefully they'll get a BIOS fix in soon, haven't heard back from them

G.Skill Ares DIMM Kit 8GB PC3-17066U CL9-11-10-28 (F3-2133C9D-8GAB)
ASROCK Z77 Extreme 4 / i5 3570k
hello, i've found out what could be the source of the issue...
I checked the two memory modules separately, and something very strange happens:
if i put one module in slot A1 or A2, everything runs as it has to, BUT if i put one module in B1 or B2, then when i check with memtest86+ the timings are completly wrong, it shows 6-6-6-20 !!!, even if i set them manually in the bios to 9-11-10-28... i think there is something very wrong there... Could anyone with the same kind of issue have a try (put just one module in bank B2 for example) and check the timings with memtest?

Asrock z77 extreme4 + gskill ares issue
Thanks for your reply, here's what asrock told me :
Selon ASRock Support <support3@asrock.nl>:
> Dear customer,
> The memory controller is not on the board, it is part of the CPU, and there
> is an almost direct link between the CPU and the memory slots.
>
> It could be a compatibility issue with the memory modules themselves, or how
> strange it may sound, be caused by the CPU cooler.
>
> Some CPU coolers can be screwed so tight that the CPU socket starts to bend
> and pins loose contact causing these strange issues, please also check the
> pins in the CPU socket.

> Please let me know the outcome.
and here's my response to asrock support:
I tried to do as you said,i did loosen the cpu cooler a bit, and checked the pins of the cpu, nothing abnormal there... this memory set is supposed to be compatible with i5 ivy processor, so i can't find any reason why it cannot set the timings properly.
The fact is that i tested my 2 modules separately on A1 A2 B1 and B2, and they work flawlessly on A1 and A2 with the good timings and speed (2133mhz 9-11-10-28).
BUT on B1 and B2 they always appear with funny timings on memtest86+ (6-6-6-20), and many errors appear (which is normal since the timings are wrong), and this happens whatever i put in the bios...
There's definitely a big issue there, is it the bios (1.70)? the board? i don't know. Any other idea? Does anyone else have the same problem?
Thanks

Sounds like the mobo, specifically may be bad slots, or could be CPU/socket combo, if the socket looked good with no bent/broken/missing pins then I'd lean towards sockets - do you have or can you borrow another set of sticks just to see if the timings get weird in the different sockets

Got mine (Z77 Extreme 4/3570K at 4.4 VTTCPU @ stock, VCCSA @ stock, DRAM @ stock, vCore w/ an offset of + .025) back and with the latest BIOS 1.7, I tried the 32GB/CL9 set on XMP and all is fine (also run fine at 2400/CL10 ( +.05 on DRAM voltage), the 2133/CL9 Snipers, F3-17000CL9Q-16GBSR, also fine, each test OK in each slot (same at 2400). So if the sticks test OK w/ Memtest, and you have the 1.7 BIOS, then would think mobo problem.

Hi,
I too have a similar problem. I've recently bought the TridentX 8Gb sticks (F3-2400C10D-8GTX) and notice that XMP will not allow stable reboot on my Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe. Everything is on default in the Bios and I'm using the latest version fom Asus site. Both XMP profiles refuse to load after reboot and therefore default back on 1333.
I am very disappointed and am considering returning them for refund as I specifically bought them because they're supposed to be compatible.

another try
Hi again,
i gived a try with another pair of memory sticks (gskill sniper F3-14900CL9D-8GBSR) reported as fully compatible on asrock site... same isssue, memtest shows 6-6-6-20 on A2 and B2... and there are still errors. I'll rma the board and see what happens
thanks

Just had another post open on on this mobo, different set of sticks, am starting to wonder if they had a bad batch of mobos go out...or the BIOS is really screwed up, might drop them a note and see if anything is going on

XMP not working

This is very frustrating, especially when you consider the simplicity of XMP and the expense I've gone through to build this system. Just to reconfirm, all my settings for memory and CPU are all set to 'Auto' with no tweaks. It's just a brand new Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe and your memory.
Did you get a reply back from Asus?
