  • 2nd (new) set of F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ problem

    Ok first off computer specs:

    Model of the motherboard: Biostar A770e3
    Model of the memory: 8 Gb (4 x 2gb) F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ
    Model of the CPU: Amd Phenom II x2 555 unlocked to Amd Phenom x4 B55 (955) 3.2ghz (stock)


    provide the RAM in question: above
    the amount of RAM: above (issue with 2nd set)
    mobo: above
    BIOS version: default: 080014 (don't want to update cause that has been reported to interfere with the unlock ability).
    CPU: above
    whether you are OCing: I am on the CPU (modifier set to 18.5 for a 3.7ghz), And yes I tried setting DDR3-1333 and fsb to 240 but my fourth unlocked core can't handle 240 fsb even at default modifier. Also Overclocking the GPU.
    GPU (and driver): EVGA Geforce 560 ti Classified, driver is the only one out for it...285.96 i think.
    OS version Win 7 64bit Professional Addition

    ok to the issue:

    So i set the ram manually to DDR3-1600 in the bios manually and changed the settings to 9-9-9-24 which are the timings the ram is rated for. (used method 2 from this forum)

    The first set (in slots 1 and 2) (the set I have had for 6-7+ months) are reporting and running at DDR1600 (800 mhz each) (PC3-12800H) very well.

    The 2nd set (in slots 3 and 4) (newly installed 3/4 days ago) is only reporting a max bandwidth (CPU-Z) of 667mhz each (PC3-10700) (or DDR-1333) and running at this speed.
    I am wondering if there is a way to make the 2nd set to run at the same speed as the first set, or if its an issue with the ram, or just something I'll have to live with. And if it is something I have to live with should i set the first set back to 1333?

    I am not having any issues with the ram running anything and I passed 2 rounds of memtest 86+, tho I haven't run it longer yet. First spotted the problem in 3dmark11 while OCing the GPU.

    Thanks for any help/suggestions you may have.

    Check CPU-Z in the Memory Tab, that's what all sticks are running at...the Max Bandwidth in the SPD tab is nothing more than the default boot up speed i.e. even 2133 sticks will show up as 1333 or 1600, has nothing to do with the sticks specifications or true rated freq

      its says the right stuff in the memory tab, but as you can see from 3dmark:

        Same thing, it reads the default boot speed as is programmed into the SPD...Whenever you have more than 1 stick, then all sticks will run at the slowest speed, so if you had any sticks actually running at 1333 (shown above as 667) then they would all run at 1333 (667) and as is shown in CPU-Z they are running at 800 (1600)

          Ok cool think I understand now. So the first set reports at 1600 cause it boots at that and the second set reports at 1333 cause it boots at that speed but both run at ddr3-1600 tho. Cool thanks for the help. So idont need to. Do I need to do anything else?

            Sounds like you are good, DRAM is just continuing to evolve, wasn't long ago that the basic default boot speed on most boards was 1066 and then jumped to 1333 and is rapeidly moving to 1600 (on the Intel platform anyway), AMD will prob stay at 1066/1333 for another 6 months or more, until they get more CPUs out that can easily run faster DRAM, right now they have a handful that can run 1600 and some higher, then the new Zambezi's can run 1866 and a little higher, but most all Intel CPUs can run 1866 and most can run better - up to 2400, which is about the max at the moment (like to see how funny this sounds a year from now)
