  • recommended for Gigabyte GA-790XT-USB3 F4 ?

hi all, (search revealed nothing on my mobo)

i have had this rig for only 6mths self built as money became avalaible.

    AMD Phenom II X4 945, F4, 3000 MHz 125w
    Gigabyte GA-790XT-USB3 F4 Bios
    4GB G-Skill DDR3-1333 DDR3 SDRAM (F3-10666CL9-4GBNT )
    HIS Radeon HD6870 IceQ X 1GB (NEW)
    Corsair GS-600 Power Supply (NEW)
    HD0 OCZ-VERTEX 2 SATA Disk 60GB
    HD1 ST350041 8AS SATA Disk 500GB
    Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (64-bit)

    I may buy ;
    G.Skill F3-12800CL9Q-16GBRL (4x4GB) DDR3 (or 2x4gb)
    or- G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-10666CL7Q-16GBXH (4x4GB) DDR3 (or 2x4gb)

never used better than generic brand ram and PSU before (many years to my shame) lol. bearing in mind above post

    all should be ok?

Think you'd be better to run the 1333 set or go with the 1600 set and plan to run the sticks at 1333 w/ maybe tighter timings - don't think your CPU will be able to carry 1600, especially w/ 16 GB - may also want to check the specs on CPU and mobo to ensure that CPU/mobo combo can run 4 sticks at 1333, some are limited to 1 stick per channel (2 sticks)

thank you for your reply, Tradesman.

      seems i will have to settle for 2x4gb @1600 in slots 3 & 4.
      will be great anyway.

only 12gb config i found is @1333. no big deal.

      setting sights now on Bulldozer.

will buy 4x4gb 1600 and use extras for my upcoming Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 project.

      cheers

          hi again.
ended up buying Ripjaws F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL (passed memtest86 4.2 with flying colours!)along with a HAF 912 Advanced case.
the HAF case is a top choice. very happy with both choices.
my current GA-790XT-USB3 board is not very o/c freindly for this ram.
not going to bother with bulldozer. i need something that is proven. new mobo and maybe a 965be or 1090t. too much bother otherwise.

          cheers!

              update

              hi.

i had seen on the net and been told by some that my GA-790XT-USB3 and amd945 cpu would be very hard (not possible) to run my new Ripjaws F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL at 1600.

i think these pics may show that what i did in bios and the results of that turned out to be fairly simple steps. KISS comes to mind. lol.

plans of new mobo etc. on hold due to giving my mother 2 hdd's,2nd monitor and mouse/keyboard. all new and expensive. sigh!

i must admit this mobo is not "tweak freindly" at all.

              cheers!

                reason for this please?

Think you need to post them elsewhere and then add the link to the hosting site

                        thank you GSKILL TECH.

cannot do anything with N/Bridge !

                        i do believe i have 1600 however. nearly..winsat mem reports 15302mb.

being capped by ISP right now .

                        memclock @ 8x in bios = 1600.
                        9,9,9,25,40 spd in cpuz 1.57.
                        same in memory panel.

                        is this ok?

                        cheers.

If it is stable, that will be the best settings.

                          Thank you
