  • How much +- we can go for DDR3 rated voltage ?

    Hi,

I have F3-12800CL7-4GBRM (2 kits) and facing weird memory related errors which are bit related and occurs occasionally and crashes the system.

I am playing with system-voltages and ram voltages and I want to ask that the rated voltage for that RAM is 1.6v but how much I can increase without any damage to RAM/system means in safe range ?

I have all 4 slots full and I am assuming that the RAM errors happening is due to voltage ??

    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3
    Memory: G.Skill F3-12800CL7-4GBRM (2 kits)
    CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T (3.7GHz @ 1.375v -- CPU-NB 2.6Hz @ 1.175v)
    CPU Cooler: Coolermaster V6GT
    PSU: Thermaltake XT 775W
    Case: Coolermaster CM-690 II Advanced
Graphics: Asus Radeon HD 6970 (EAH6970)

1.65v should be safe, but you may want to run memtest on each stick individualy.
    AMD Phenom II X6 1090T@ 4.2GHz
Corsair H50 Hydro (push/pull intake fans)
    ASUS Crosshair V Formula
    2x4GB G.Skill RipjawsX@ 1975MHz, 9-10-9-28 (2T)
    SLI: 2x EVGA GTX 570's@ 902/1804/2032
    Creative SB X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
    Corsair HX850W Modular
Cooler Master HAF 922 (200mm side fan)

Thanks for reply. I already tested modules and they are working fine in Pairs in tested in different RAM slots. The problem happens when all four slots are filled and its occasional.

At the moment I set RAM voltage to 1.61v and now testing with Prime95 and then will do with memtest86.

Thanks for telling me the range; so now I can increase voltage without confusion

Just a heads up: if you use Memtest86 v. 4.0 (not to be confused with Memtest86+) you may encounter an error on test #7. See this thread for details.

Thanks for info. I read that thread and will keep that in mind. Although I was referring to memtest86+ v4.20 and I wasn't aware of any memtest86. Will look into this too. Also the error I faced in memtest86+ was in test#7 which is block move and happened only once with a single bit error.

So far prime95 is running fine, and I will post my results back ASAP.
