Gigabyte X58A-UD7 rev.2 + 12GB F3-17000CL8D-4GBXMD 2133mHz

  • Gigabyte X58A-UD7 rev.2 + 12GB F3-17000CL8D-4GBXMD 2133mHz

    I got Gigabyte X58A-UD7 rev.2 motherboard, core i7 970 Gulfton 3200mHz, everything is running on basic freqs, voltages and timings...
    But motherboard sees only 4Gb in 2133Mhz mode of memory..
    Boots with 12Gb only on 1800mHz.

    So my question is: how can i make this memory run whole 12Gb on 2133mHz?
    Strongly like to do this, since it boots in4Gb on such frequency )

    Cmon guys, help!
    I can't get why it sees 4bg of 2133mHz, and can't see 12Gb...
    Trying to boost voltage with no luck also.

    And there is strange thing with GTA IV game also, can't boot with this critical error

      You need to fine tune the voltages. QPI/VTT Voltage and DRAM Voltage. They are not correct, so the capacity is off.

        How much do i need to raise QPI voltage?
        Coz i've left CPU, QPI and rest of the voltages in auto mode, only voltage i've efver changed is DRAM

        DRAM voltage now is according spec 1.65 (but actually it's set to 1.68, coz motherboard lover the actual voltage a bit)
        Each time i was trying to raise voltage of DRAM it leads me to same boot of 4gb, but not 12...

        Please, be more specific on exact values, if you can..

          It depends on your CPU, so you will need to raise it incrementally to what it needs to be stable.

          I can't be more specific, this is advanced overclocking, so it is not simple plug and play. There are no values I can give you that will just work, it requires time to test and see what your combination wants.

            Actually i have thought that this time it's plug & play

            And memory runs on x16 =2133mHz stable without any sense of overclock, but can see only 4gb, i thought it was really strange..
            But since you say it needs to be overclocked than i'll give a try..
            But i thought that auto mode of CPU and QPI voltage means that it's dynamicly finds the best working value, depends on CPU core freq and memory freq state.

            As i understand with 2133mHz this ain't work \

            update:
            Just try to boot with raising dram voltage, highest possible to boot is 1,7 than it can't boot, but on 1,7it still sees only 4Gbs :\

            I was trying to raise CPU voltage as well - no luck here too! :\
            With QPI i'm a bit afraid without any advice how to do it, and how high is the boiling point to stop..
            Have no experience with overclock i7 machine yet

              That is already overclocking. Anything above DDR3-1333 is overclocking. You just have a good CPU, so it is easy to set the frequency, but the hard part is finding the correct voltage. Voltage is where most people have a problem. We can easily tell you how to set frequency, since those are fixed, but voltage is not, which is what makes overclocking so difficult for some.

              You do NOT raise DRAM Voltage. You need to raise QPI/VTT Voltage. Right now your DRAM and frequency is probably too high, that's why it only shows 4GB. You need to raise QPI/VTT and it should use the other memory and slots.

              Do not raise QPI over 1.50V.

              You said it boots 12GB at DDR3-1800? See what the voltage is for DDR3-1800, then work your way up. That is the best way to be safe.

              If it is too difficult, you can lower timings at DDR3-1800 and operate it like that. It should be plenty fast.

                hmm...Strange to hear that DRAM is too high, 1.7 was just for test out, now i'm loading with voltage marked on spd, of course mobo lower value, so i gotta set there 1.68, to let it run mem on actual 1,65 (at least gygabite M.I.T. shows so), also if i was trying to set something other between 1.65 and 1.68 - it can load, but bsod comes pretty fast...So am iright thatinthis case 1,68 is safe enough to let system work at least?)

                Right now i was trying gradually raise QPI/VTT until 1.5 - no luck :\
                Nothing changes...IT just sees 4GB on 2133mHz, and it's really sad for me, sinse this mem cost a lot in here and i want to use it in full)

                It boots easily in 1862mHz mode yeah, but...When you've said "See what the voltage is for DDR3-1800, then work your way up.", you mean see how much it sets in auto mode, right?
                Anyway that surely won't boot 2133mHz, coz it can't boot with super high values even, and on QPIno changes..
                Just can't get it, on previous my machines at least bios can see whole memory, even if it can't boot properly...
                But here it sees 4Gb and can easily boot with this, when all 12Gb inserted...
                For me it's like beyond

                But anyway, which timings are safe for 1862mHz?
                coz lately i have like...bad experience with lovering timings

                  4GB may be because the kits are not guaranteed to work together. That's why for this motherboard it is best to purchase a triple or hex channel kit. Not many dual channel kits.

                  Try 7-8-7-24, then work your way down.

                  This is a special high performance kit, so you should be able to achieve very, very good results.

                    What do you mean not many dual channel kits?
                    I mean i got 2GB x6 which are working on tripple channel now, at least even CPU-Z say so..

                    Well..I should give 7-8-7 a try, if it's really safe.

                    btw, is there any way to make stock mem fan at least a bit less noizy?
                    3000rpm is way too much, since now this kits are cold as my freezer

                      4GB kit is only made to operate in one machine as 4GB. So when you try three 4GB kits in the same system, they may not be able to reach the rated specifications. I don't know if this is your problem, but I am telling you so you are aware. I don't think it is the problem if DDR3-1800 is perfectly stable. In the future, if you need 12GB, you should purchase a 12GB kit.

                      To lower timings, it is safe. If you use bad timings, it will not boot. If you use good timings, it will boot. No damage is done.

                      Regarding the fan, you will need a voltage regulator, or if your motherboard can adjust speed, you need to plug it into that plug to adjust it and limit RPM.

                        I can hardly find 2133mHz memory here in Russia at all, especially with timings like 8!
                        It's unbelievably hard to find such perfomance in here...So i would like to say a big thx that i got this kit at all!

                        Btw never heard about existence of 12gb kits on such mad frequencys, they really exist?

                        Strange...I have try to lower timings to 7 8 7 24 as you said, it boots and sees 12gb of 1800 in bios, but loading windows leads to BSOD pronto ;\

                        Damn...This is my dream to use 2133mhz on stock timings or at least 1800 with cl7, but of course 2133 bandwith is noticeably higher!
                        Even in benchmarks, but most advantage of course occurs with working on videos or gaming..

                        Personally i don't have any ideas left, but to wait for new bios for my motherboard (as i understand it's upcoming soon), do you think it could fix such problem? Or maybe it is possible for you to report Gygabite about this thread so they could fix this...
                        I really don't think that this is hardware related, otherwise it won't boot at all on 2133mHz..

                        So if you got any other thoughts that i could get in use - please tell me!

                          Post some pictures of BIOS and I can see if anything is set incorrectly, but mainly it should be adjusting QPI/VTT to be stable.
