  • Can I use 2 sticks from a triple channel kit?

    I have a set of 6GB Pi sticks. (F3-12800CL8TU-6GBPI)

I'm about to purchase a sandy bridge i5-2500 and slap it on a mini-ITX motherboard. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128484)

Could I use 2 of the 3 sticks to give myself 4GB of RAM in the system?

The MB HCL list suggests F3-12800CL7D-4GBECO as compatible...

I do not know the voltage range of the board....but if it recommends 1.35V RAM, what are the odds that my 1.6V - 1.65V RAM would work. (I'm suspecting that it might be a bad idea to have that high voltage of RAM running on the board.)

So, the journey got me thinking....could I use the memory on a different SandyBridge board? (i.e. any problems running 2 sticks of a triple channel set in a dual channel capacity)
Any recommendations on a mini-TIX or micro ATX board?

Will the next release of SandyBridge include a triple channel memory bus?

Anyone want to trade for an ECO kit?

Yes, 2 or even 3 modules should be fine. You can use two sticks of triple channel on a dual channel motherboard as long as the memory is compatible with the motherboard.

The next generation of X58 (X68) will be triple channel.

    Thank you
