  • F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL + ASUS M4A79T Deluxe BIOS settings

    ALL,
Please forgive me for posting, but my experience with Overclocking and configuring RAM is minimal.

I may have to wait until later when I can capture a screen shot of my CPUZID reading, but I though I would ask now to get an idea.

FACTS: MY BIOS version is 3004 for my Mobo.
The only adjustment I made in my BIOS regarding RAM is I specified 1600 for
the MHZ, but everything else is "AUTO."
My computer runs pretty good, but it feels like it could run faster considering the
amount or MHZ of RAM I have.

My system specs are below and here is my question.

    1. The CPUZID captures my RAM speed under 1000 for each stick of RAM, but my RAM
is 1600MHZ. I use the AMD Overdrive Utility, but is there a way to get more speed out
    of my RAM?

    2. When I've made adjustments in the BIOS for RAM before, I've had to Reformat,
    so is this the norm?

    3. I would like stable settings and more speed "IF" possible. I just want to make sure
I've done everything to get the maximum performance.

    Appreciate your recommendation(s).

    1. Under the memory tab of CPU-z, what is your DRAM Frequency? You can get more "speed" by raising voltage and overclocking. Raise CPU Host-bus frequency for small increments.

    2. No, you shouldn't have to. But sometimes if have incorrect settings, it can tell you Windows is corrupt, a file is missing, etc. etc. when in actuality it is just a problem with the memory settings. It can be tricky. For this reason, always revert to default or guaranteed settings to make sure the OS is actually bad before reinstalling.

    3. Stability is up to you, you need to test for stable settings.

    Thank you

What is the actual CPU-Z reading for your memory?
It is probably reporting it correctly if it's around 800MHz or so.
Keep in mind that DDR memory is "double data rate" so if CPU-Z says 800MHz, your memory is actually running at 1600MHz.

I had one of my RAID 0 drives crash, so I bought 2 OCZ 60GB SSD's and I kept them separated (No RAID this time).

Now my system only recognizes 1333 MHZ instead of 1600 and my BIOS version is now 3303.

My DRAM Frequency is now 668.9 MHz

Max Bandwidth is now PC3-10700 (667 MHz)

Part number is F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL SPD Ext: XMP

Can I roll back my BIOS to 3004 somehow?

I would NOT recoemmend rolling back a bios to an older version, you may corrupt the bios beyond repair.
You will need to increase your CPU (FSB) Clock frequency to achieve 1600MHz speed with your memory.
However, keep in mind when you increase the CPU Clock, your CPU, NB, and HT Link frequencies will also increase accordingly.
So these will need to be adjusted to stable frequencies as well.

Thanks for the heads up on the bios rollback.

What is a good range for all of those frequencies I should change?

I've tried several settings (from forums) and my machine will lock up in the bios of just before windpws if I even try to adjust it.

If I did NOT make any adjustments in the BIOS, would AMD Overdrive utility do anything?

                So far, so good.

In the BIOS I set the CPU Host/Bus Freq to 240 (since I don't get 1333 as an option, I left it on auto). 800, 1252, 1600, and 19xx only come up when I input the 240.

I set the DRAM Voltage to 1.50 and set timings to 8-8-8-24.

I'll test it on games, but it's stable and CPUZ reflects the DRAM Frequency as 800.1 MHz..

Do ALL overclocking in the bios, do NOT use AMD OverDrive for this purpose.

                    Roger that!

I won't bother to load it.

Here are screen shots of my CPU-Z. I hope you can enlarge it.

It's running stable and seems quick.

What do you think as far as the settings go?

                    Thanks,
