  • F3-12800CL7T-12GBRM and Asus Rampage III Formula

    Hello.

I bought and put my system together a tiny bit over a month ago.
    I bought the G-Skill F3-12800CL7T-12GBRM memory 3 weeks ago.

    Asus Rampage III Formula
    Intel 990x @ stock 3.47ghz
    G-Skill F3-12800CL7T-12GBRM
    GTX580
    Corsair AX-1200 psu
    Onboard sound
    CoolerMaster HAF-X case

No OC'ing done at all (set OC to Manual, and didnt OC anything)

Anyway, last week I started getting BSOD's.
I ran memtest86+, and 2 of the sticks were raturning ~2100 errors.

I RMA'ed to newegg for replacements, but I want to know about settings for the memory.

I used the xmp (?) setting in the bios, which did the 7-8-7-24 timings correctly. The DRAM Base Voltage setting was at 1.64, so I set that to 1.60.
I then set the (???Dram???) setting to 1600mhz.

Now, there are a TON of settings for the memory. There are 3 sections (something like memory 1, memory 2, memory 3).
All of these were left at auto.

Should I be touching those, and setting them to anything specific? Or just leave them all on auto?

I am a super noob when it comes to all these bios settings (which is why I dont OC, lol), so please explain like to a child.

    Thanks for any help.

If you load the XMP settings the rest should default out correctly

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

As I said, the 7-8-7-24 does go correctly.
But, everything else is set to auto.

Leave them to AUTO, as long as you set the main ones, the others will detect fine. Or you can copy over the values already shown for AUTO.

            Well, thats just it.
There are no values shown for auto.
            Just 'Auto' shows.
CPU-Z only shows the 7-8-7=24 values also.

In BIOS, it will show default values. If you would like to see advanced timings for the modules, download a program like SPDTool to read all advanced timings.

                OK.
                Got my replacements.

What should the QPI/DRAM voltage be set to?

                Intel 990x cpu (no overclock)
                F3-12800CL7T-12GBRM memory
                Asus Rampage III Formula motherboard.

Should I post another bad review on newegg, just to get an answer?

The question spawns from newegg, in my review of these memory sets, where a gskill rep said to make sure that the QPI/DRAM Voltage was NOT too high, but negelected to tell me WHAT the setting should be.

                    Sigh.

I am going corsair next time.
                    This is just rediculous.
You guys just lost a loyal customer.

Your motherboard should be capable with it set to AUTO.

The QPI/DRAM Core Voltage depends on your CPU, that's why we have no voltage to give you. We are not "neglecting", you need to test for that voltage yourself, or leave it to AUTO.

                        Edit:
                        Sorry, didnt see the response.

So, the gskill tech on newegg said to make sure the motherboard is not overvolting the qpi/dram.
And to make sure it wasnt.

Now, I have had my motherboard, processor, and memory in every post here and newegg.
But, STILL no one is able to tell me what to set it at?

                        Intel 990x @ stock 3.46 settings.
                        Asus Rampage 3 Formula.
                        F3-12800CL7T-12GBRM.

I dont even have Turbo on in the bios.
                        qpi/dram is fluctuating @ around 1.20+

Keep us posted here, keep a record, your results may also help future users.

It is odd that you are having issues, this kit should work fine with just the XMP Profile enabled.

                            Thank you

                              OK.

                              Got the system stable with:
                              QPI/DRAM 1.4volts
