  • cant overclock GA-EP35C-DS3R Q660 with G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3

    Model of the motherboard:GA-EP35C-DS3R
    Model of the memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM
    Model of the CPU:Q6600 G0

What is the problem? cant overclock CPU

I've had this system for 3 years.
    I used to have 4GB (2x2GB) of CORSAIR DOMINATOR 240-Pin DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) in my GA-EP35C-DS3R / Q6600.
I could overclock that, completely stable, to 3.6GHz.
I needed to go to 8GB, so I added 2 more of the CORSAIR DOMINATOR. I could still overclock, but only to 3.4Ghz, and only with +.5 Mem Overvolt and +.3 northbridge.
And I got occasional blue screens. Mem test iso also reported errors.

    So, I bought G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) hoping I'ld get complete stability.

But now I cant overclock at all. If I try to go over 2.4, the system multi-reboots and goes back to 2.4.

I've tried more voltage (CPU, memory, northbridge), and dropping DRAM timing down to 2.0 (as well as trying it at auto) and setting timing to 10,10,10,28

    But nothing is working.

Can I not overclock this system any more?
Did I buy the wrong memory? Do I need DDR3 1066 or 1333 instead of 16600?

    Thanks for any thoughts....

        What is your MCH Strap?

For system memory multiplier, is there a letter after it? 2.00D, C?

        Thank you

Someone on a different forum pointed out that the GA-EP35C-DSR3 board isnt rated for 8GB of DDR3 (on 4GB), and it's max speed rating is 1333 regardless. So I've decided to return these sticks after all.

Thanks for your assistance though, I appreciate your time.
