  • Upgrading memory on a MSI MSI NF980-G65 mb

    Current specs:

    AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ955FBGIBOX
MSI NF980-G65 AM3 NVIDIA nForce 980a SLI HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard
    OCZ Gold 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 15000) Desktop Memory Model OCZ3G1866LV4GK, bumped up to 1333, 2T

I tried to upgrade to 8 gig using a second OCZ3G1866LV4GK kit, but it turned out to be full of errors and almost destroyed my Win7 install. Got fed up and returned the junk.

    I noticed that NewEgg has this kit on sale: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL

Does anyone think there would be a problem using this kit in my PC? I would pull out the old OCZ RAM and save it for another PC. I tried to see if this RAM was tested on my motherboard, but their test sheet is old and not updated. The 2gig 12800CL9D-4GBECO modules were tested, but not the new 4gig ones.

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Cheers,
    George

Should work fine, but you will need to adjust memory settings in BIOS. Look around this forum, I post settings for AMD DDR3-1600 CL9 everywhere...

I will make a sticky for it once I get some time, but if you need help when you get it, just let us know here.

    Thank you
