  • Problem with Flares

I have a set of gskill flares I just bought..I put them in today..and know matter what I do I can not get them to boot at 2000mhz..they will run 1600mhz just fine..I tried adjusting the CPU-NB voltage and speed..from 2500mhz to 3000mhz with 1.35volts..won't post at 2000mhz but will at 1600mhz with that CPU-NB setting...my 1090T is overclocked at 4ghz and runs fine with 1.45volts..my HT is at right now 2600mhz..but when I try for 2000mhz with the memory..the HT is set at 2500mhz..I was told by gksill before buying the flares..That the MSI NF980-G65 would have NO problem running this memory at 2000mhz..As long as I had the 1090T..So far WRONG..So if anyone has any clues or ideas..what I need to set different..Really would thank yea...

And also did set the memory volt at 1.65 like it said..and the timings 7-9-7-24 and also tried 8-8-8-24 and 9-9-9-24..none worked at 2000mhz

Gskill had a reason when listing a number of compatible boards on the Flares box and the website...

At launch Gskill Flares were only warranted to run the 2000mhz on them listed Asus boards. Gigabyte is working hard now to get the 890FX series compatible too (bios updates and PCB changes) Best you can do, if you don't intend to swap motherboard is to find a sweetspot with tight timings.

FYI at launch the Flares didn't run well on the MSI 790FX, Asrock 880, 890GX Extreme3, Gigabyte 890FX UD5/7. Sometimes even 1600C7 didn't even post. On the Asus boards I got even 2200Mhz stable...

It's a mix of board/bios,CPU and ram... the Thuban alone won't guarantuee 2000mhz ops...

Do you have the latest BIOS for the motherboard?

      Thank you

Yes I have Bios ver 1.4

My settings as of right now

        1090T at 4.0ghz 1.44v cool and stable

Memory F3-16000CL9D-4GBFLS at 1600mhz 8-8-8-20 with auto volt

        Motherboard MSI NF980 G65 Nvidia chipset 980a

        FSB 200mhz

        HT 2600mhz auto volt

        CPU-NB 3000mhz with 1.35volts

Msi is saying on their site...Board can do upto 2133mhz memory
No matter what I do..Cannot get the Flares stable over 1600mhz..I also have PIS and have got them stable at 1666mhz..and have got the computer to post with them at 1733mzh..but that is it

First of all, there's no reason or need to run your HT Link at 2600, lower it to 2000-2200MHz.
You are putting tremendous stress on the IMC by running your CPU/NB@ 3000, lower it to 2500-2600MHz.
Achieving 2000MHz with PC3-16000 memory takes some serious tweaking and testing.
Do not let your memory voltage run on auto, manually enter the DRAM voltage in the bios.
Try running your memory at 1800MHz with CL9 timings entered in the bios, then tweak further from there.

Also, consider these bios voltage settings:
          CPU/NB voltage: 1.275v
          NB voltage: 1.25v
          HT Link voltage: 1.20v
          AMD Phenom II X6 1090T@ 4.2GHz
Corsair H50 Hydro (push/pull intake fans)
          ASUS Crosshair V Formula
          2x4GB G.Skill RipjawsX@ 1975MHz, 9-10-9-28 (2T)
          SLI: 2x EVGA GTX 570's@ 902/1804/2032
          Creative SB X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
          Corsair HX850W Modular
Cooler Master HAF 922 (200mm side fan)
