    Wondering which is more stable, better performance, etc., for my set up.

    Mobo: Asus Rampage III Gene w/ latest BIOS 6020
    CPU: i7-950
    RAM: 6 sticks of: F3-12800 CL8 2GB PI

    Mobo default setting for the RAM was 1066mhz, DRAM at 1.50v
    XMP sets things to 1600mhz, DRAM at 1.60v and QPI at 1.38 +/-

    What are pros and cons of using the default vs XMP settings?

    There is no con using what you were able to attain via XMP.

    For that motherboard don't use either default or XMP. You're get the best out of it running manual and testing other settings.

      Agree w/ Vectrexer, manual setup is best, default doesn't cover 1600 and XMP is a generic setting that is set for for a specific set of generic parameters
