  • BSOD ASROCK 890GX Extreme 3 + Ripjaws

    Hi,

I recently bought a PC with an ASROCK 890GX Extreme 3 motherboard a AMD Phenon II X4 955 Black Edition, 2 sticks of GSKILL RAM, this ones:

    http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=243

    and a Corsair TX650w PSU.

I have experienced a lot of BSOD lately, I went to test my RAM with memtest and something strange is happening, when I test the sticks indiviudally memtest reports no errors, but as soon as I put the two sticks I get thousands of errors, I can't understand why.

Also, I have been a long time Mac user, this was my firtst PC in a long time, is there something I could try to change in the BIOS?

    Thanks for any help,
    Mario

    PS: Forgive my english...

May want to increase the voltage to the CPU/MC, AMD CPUs have a weak MC (especially with fast RAM). Could also try reducing the speed or loosen the timings

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

I'm a Mac user and every time I have to go to my BIOS setup screen I die a little...

      thanks

Look for CPU-NB Voltage in BIOS. This should be the same section as all the other voltages like CPU and DRAM. Increase this value by +0.1V and it should be stable. If not, try 8-8-8-24 timings.

        Thank you

          Hi again

I think I changed what I was supposed to change, this is my BIOS after changing everything, but as you can see I still get hundreds of errors in memtest. And this is only in the first five minutes...

Are there any problems in using my RAM with AMD systems? I saw at the product page that this RAM doesn't have AMD CPU as supported. What RAM is the best for my configuration?

              thanks again

Make sure CR (Command Rate) is at 2N then try again. If no go, try setting the speed to 1333 instead of 1600. If that eliminates the errors then you'll need to OC the CPU and feed it, the MC and the HT a bit more voltage

Send the kit in for new replacements since they should work with those settings. Try one at a time to see if you can find a bad one.

ok, so I've been testing the memory with several different settings and no matter what I try I will sooner or later get a BSOD.

Is there any chance to swap this stick with something more AMD friendly, even if their slower?

                    thanks

It's all the same, as long as you set it correctly.

You can go with a lesser performance kit, but it should not be necessary since this memory is capable of the same. A new kit with no errors should not have these problems.
