  • Overclocking DDR3 to 4.0 GHZ

    Hey G.skill team,

I'm trying to overclock my system to 4.0 GHZ but it keeps failing when I run the ram test.

I currently have the following setup:

Motherboard Brand / Model: MSI P55-GD65
    CPU: i7-870
    RAM: F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL

I have my system set up on the default timing of 8-8-8-24, VRAM at 1.65, and the Vcore 1.3.

Should i change anything else to help me overclock my system. I know the CPU is stable cause I ran a stress test just on the CPU along with little ram test and it was stable for 8 hours. Can you give me a better timing or a solution to this problem?

    Regards,

    Wingway

Try the rated specs to make sure the memory is OK.

    Thank you

Hey I set everything to rated spec and it wouldn't load at 3.7 GHZ.

I had to set the ram to 1.65V and default timing of 9-9-9-24

But anything above 3.7 GHZ it'll crash.

Should i set the ram Volt higher or it might cause harm to the rams?

You shouldn't need to. Not sure if your settings are bad or your memory is bad. I don't see why you would have a problem overclocking..

Have you tried testing the memory without the overclock to see if it can operate to spec?

        Thank you
