  • P6X58D-E and adding memory

    Hi,

I have the P6X58D-E Motherboard with an i7 930 processor. I currently have 6gb of memory installed and all works fine. However, I would like to add another 6gb and wondered if it is as simple as just filling the 3 empty memory slots with another 3 x 2gb sticks?

The memory I have now is G.Skill F3-12800 CL9T 6GB (3x2GB) NQ DDR3 PCR 1600 and I would like to add another triple pack of the same type. Would I need to make any bios changes?

    Thanks in advance

As long as you are going to add another kit of the same model RAM that shouldn't be a problem at all. Try it at the same settings you are using now. If you have a boot issue or can't get stable bump up the QPI/DRAM voltage and the DRAM voltage just a tad and you'll be set.

What are the last four digits of the part number on your RAM?

        Thank you for the reply.

I shall check the part number when I get home tonight. Have to take the daughter shopping for University and just hope she leaves me with enough money for my RAM

            Yep, sure does

If the pc doesn't boot correctly or appears unstable when you add the extra memory....

Bump DRAM Voltage up to 1.55V
            Bump QPI-DRAM Voltage up to 1.25 - 1.30v

            You'll be all set

Thanks for all your help. I'm sure I'll be back some time in the very near future

p.s. would I be correct in thinking I should add a separate ram cooler if I am to run 6 sticks?
If yes, could you suggest something or am I asking in the wrong place?

              Thanks again.

Agreed - I totally love the G.SKILL FTB-3500C6-S Fans. It is a great RAM cooler, effective and quiet.
