  • F3 10666CL9T-12GBRL with Asus P6x58d-E problem

    Hi
I have just brought (in the UK) two sets F3 10666CL9T-12 GBRL so 24GB total.

I have a new Asus p6X58D-E Motherboard, it has the latest bios 303 on it. I have an i7 980x and corsair 850watt PSU.

The problem is: when I install one set (12GB) the bios only sees 8GB that?s with everything set on auto. The only way I have been able to get the board to recognise 12GB is to lower the DRAM from 1333 to 1066mhz. I have exactly the same problem with the second set, I must lower the speed to 1066mhz then all 12GB is recognised.

The biggest issue is when I use both sets ie. 24GB total, the best i can get is 16GB recognised at 1066MHZ. However if I lower the frequency even more to 800mhz..I get all 24GB recognised. And the system seams to run stable at these lower DRAM speeds.

If I try to increase the DRAM speed to 1333mhz with all 6 sticks in place I only see 4GB !

I have tested each stick individually for 2 passes with mestest86 4.1 at 1333mhz, that about 90minutes testing on each stick with no problems and Memtest sees each stick as 4GB.

I am building this PC as a Video editing suite so the 24GB is important to me, I would like to be able to run all 6 sticks at 1333mz and not 800mhz.

I have also read most of the posts on missing memory, and tried setting the timmings manually , upping the dram volts to 1.54, but that did not help. I have also tried moving the sticks to different slots with no joy.

If anyone can give me any more help to get all my 24GB working at 1333mhz I would very much appreciate it.
    Thanks
    Gary

You could bump up the voltage on the six sticks being populated, they might be dropping the voltage down since all slots are being used. Also you can run then at lower frequencies, but off set the difference with some tighter timings. One thing certainly going for you is the Extreme Edition I7-908X, that multiplier can come in real handy in keeping your Ram clocked low. I don’t know I only run 6GB right now and no real insight in the 12-24GB realm, let us know how it goes if you find a solution.

      Hi
Thanks for the reply. I did try lowering the cpu multiplier and upping the frequency.

999mhz is the highest I can get to with 1.54 Vram volts (i don't want to try higher dram volts). Any higher speed than this with all 6 slots loaded and I start to lose my 24 GB quickly.

I cant even run a 12GB Matched set on there own at 1333Mhz

Hopefully a GSkill tech will be able to help out on Monday.

      Thanks

        Hi
I am still having problems getting my Ram to run at anything above 1000mhz if i go to 1050mhz i lose 8GB (in the bios) and Sandra sees empty slots.

What is the hightest Qpi/dram volts i could try and the highest Dram volts? I know they need to be within 0.4 volts of each other, but not sure what my safe maximums with this ram and the 980x cpu.

        Any help much appreciated.

        Thanks

try changing trfc value from auto to 74 or higher - my experience is that trfc values that are too low will make memory "disappear"

          change DRAM Voltage to 1.54v

          change QPI/VTT to 1.30v

              Hi

              FIXED!

Just wanted to report back, after trying what I thought was everything, I read somewhere about reseating the CPU.

So I removed the HSF, took out the cpu, had a good look with a magnifying glass at the pins on the MB ..they where fine.

I put the CPU back, (cleaned) but this time instead of just closing the lever, I applied a gentle downward force to the corners of the CPU, whist at the same time gently closing the lever.

              Turned on...24GB booted @ 1333MHZ Hooray!!

The system has been running various tests now for 12 hours and no problems, I can even run the RAM @1400MHZ!!

I guess that because the memeory controller is on the CPU the contact must be perfect ??

Any way I am now up and running....22GB/sec bandwidth Cinebench score 11 @4.2 overclock.

              Thanks, for everyones help.
