  • Hoyle Quest to Find Proper DDR3 Blocks

    Hello, you all know me back here hopefully by DDR2 tweaking or something related.

    I am atm updating machinery a bit to LGA1366 and Core I7-970 as soon as it is here, but I am having issues locating decent memory on decent price. I truly hate high Latency memory which comes to the issue here as all I can find is CL9 DDR3 blocks and what I would love to have is something like CL7 (or something crazy as CL6) and exactly to what this core can handle.

    -Price point I am looking is 100-250 Euros (same in dollars on us prices pretty near).
    -Memory is triple channel (Not trying to get 9000Mhz memory here I am trying to find rock solid at CPU scalable speeds on ideal multipliers which I have no clue about it's an Westmere 6 core/12 thread with integrated memory controller)
    -Motherboard will most likely (99% be ASUS Manufactured board).
    -tRD 9 can kiss my ... (;P)

    recommendations (from any manufacturer) would be welcome.

    While at it could someone point me a place I can buy G.Skill memory.

    2 of local retailers seem to have quit providing G.Skill memory at all, lol, so it's getting damn hard to even go and just buy what reads on G.Skill front page.

      This is our latest kit, but above your price range:

      http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-374-_-Product

      Here are the DDR3-1600 kits:

        Uh, NewEgg will not sell Finland.

        Where can I order inside Finland these blocks:

        [ TDD ] F3-12800CL7T-12GBTDD (4Gx3)

        or

        [ TDD ] F3-14400CL8T-12GBTDD (4Gx3)

        or

        [ TDD ] F3-16000CL8T-12GBTDD (4Gx3)

        Hell, can I buy them from you directly ??? (Hell, It's only 7 days shipping form US & payment in Paypal.)

        (In here our Finnish Importer -> Retailer seems to be holding back other products as well until they can sell all the crap out of closets.)

        (Largest Online/Offline sales in Finland:
        http://www.jimmspc.fi/ -> Memory Areas
        http://www.tietokonekauppa.fi/ -> Memory Areas
        http://www.multitronic.fi/ -> Memory Areas
        http://www.verkkokauppa.com/ -> Memory Areas
        As you can see from these (Probably understand so much). Situation here is pretty damn Grim..)

        As what goes to 'Price Range' I am willing to spend 350 Euros, if I have to to get proper blocks 3x4GB CL7/8.

        Please Advice again without price limitations.

        -edit-

        Does it btw matter do I buy an 'triple channel kit' or simply drop 3 sticks from 'Dual Channel kit' to triple channel board ??
        (As this would in matter of fact be cheaper in the end to buy now 2 kits of 4GB Dual channels and finish the job later on 1 Dual channel kit)

          The TDD series is very new, not many United States retailers even have those. Also, these kind of kits are usually low quantity, which is why most of them go to NewEgg. Most performance kits are sold out on NewEgg, so there is not much to export.

          You can use dual channel kits, but they may not always sync properly together, which is why triple channel kits are suggested.

          Thank you

            As you know me I ain't interested on old. Specifically on this old. We should of have much more of improved blocks by now on market on 4GB module sizes yet we have no modules after 2 years I last checked (where back then DDR3 was new thing).

            As for your memory on front page I can?t find anything else worth looking. I found triple channel kit of 'Perfect Storm' here on local sales looking pretty good, but when stopped by OCZ web pages it ain't going much better there either (corsair looks to be in 4GB size completely out of the game), but OCZ has Platinum and Reaper series exactly 1 set on both on PC-12800 CL7-7-7-x I would of even be interested. I wonder how is the CL9 DDR3-2000 which has 9ns latencies exceptionally. OCZ modules are not even on NewEgg and yet I think I will wait as long as I get the chance to buy some of these better module sets. As I see absolute -1 interest to buy anything else.

            -EDIT-

            I just HAVE TO edit.. seeing this article:
            http://www.ninjalane.com/articles/ge...ple/page4.aspx

            Damn, am I thinking this much wrong and Intel Corporation is not ready for Triple channel Memory at all.

            take a look at Memory Latencies on Dual-Channel DDR3 same speeds vs. Triple channel latencies & speed is stable the same maybe an ~200 MB/s faster, but it's no go, if latency rises 10ns in same speeds. no speed is worth more flexible functionality.

                Yeah, that starts to look like portable battle ram already. ;P

                Just trying to here figure did technology advance at all on this final pass of CPUs from Penryn to Westmere. Seems like this HT thing sucks comparing to Penryn 2 cores/4 threads. funny I just checked on one technews site there was fellow benchmarking PI on Phenom II X6 1090T that core beat straight up at only 3,6Ghz the Core I7 965 equal XEON with 4,3Ghz on cores. What I mean sure I understand these Intel new toys are fun to have and circumstances of usage results very differently but considering that PI is over 4 seconds faster on AMD six core which should be a lot behind it's damn a lot said while using software which will see all 12 threads.

                As for memory, well I got 2-3 months max until I get my new core.. Kinda waiting for the Westmere 930 as I know this Core I7 970 is just a start to August and of course they will be dead silent who the heck would wanna say 'hey, wait for 2 months and we offer you double the speed with same price tag'.

                Sad that this same does not apply to DDR3 memory modules.. Hell, every time I even take a look to memory modules it feels like I am playing 'LOTTO' or 'BINGO' "and this IC is the number 7, Sorry no straight line for you".
