  • DDR3 1600 with AMD II x3?

The issue I am anticipating may be similar to the one discussed in this sticky: http://gskill.us/forum/showthread.php?t=2977 . While it discusses the Phenom II X2 and I the Athlon II X3, is the issue the same.

If so, can I run the 1600 at 1333 with the Athlon II, even I have to manually tweak the voltages, and then set the speed back to 1600 if I later upgrade to a processor that supports 1600?

What memory do I need? I am putting together a new build based on the AMD Athlon II X3 440 rana, but planning on upgrading the CPU in the future. Per AMD, it only supports DDR3 1333 memory, but I would like to buy "G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM" from Newegg.

I found F3-12800CL7D-4GBPI and the F3-12800CL7D-4GBBHZ on ASRocks QVC list.

I don't plan on doing any gaming but am building a system to allow for expansion. The mobos I am looking at all support that module. I will probably go with the ASRock 880G Extreme3.

If I use your F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM with that mobo, will the RAM run (even if it steps down to DDR 1333)?

    TIA.

Yes, you can simply operate the memory at DDR3-1333 6-7-6-21 or 7-7-7-21 1.50V.

    Thank you

      Thanks.

Thanks. I am going ahead with the package, including your mem, from Newegg.
