  • Will underclocking F3-16000CL9T-6GBRH to 1600mhz work on a ASUS P6T SE motherboard

Hello, I am making a new build and so far I have a i930, ASUS P6T SE motherboard, and I am planning to get the Noctua NH-D14 air cooler. I have three quick questions. I need Ripjaws because the Tridents and PIs won't fit under the DH14 according to Noctua because it will block the first memory sloth heatsink...

    1. I know you can't use F316000CL9T-6GBRH on ASUS P6T SE motherboard at 2000Mhz, but I read that you can underclock it to 1600Mhz (7-7-7-20) 1.6v. If I do that will I be able to use it on my motherboard.

    2. If not, I would like to get to get F3-12800CL7T-6GBRH 1600Mhz (7-7-7-24-2N), but I live in the U.S. and can't find it anywhere. Where can I get it?

    3. I will be using the 2nd, 4th, and 6th memory sloth, so will F3-12800CL7T-6GBPI fit under the NH-D14 or will it block those as well?

    1. Yes, DDR3-1600 7-7-7-21 should be fine.

    2. G.Skill F3-12800CL7T-6GBPI

    These are the closest available.

    3. Should fit the cooler.

    Thank you

That's great news! So what would yo u recommend F316000CL9T-6GBRH running at 1600Mhz 7-7-7-21 at 1.6 or F3-12800CL7T-6GBPI running at 1600Mhz 7-8-7-24-2N at 1.5v. The ripjaws would have lower timings but higher voltage and the PI have higher timings but lower voltage? I am planning to OC the i930 to 4.0Ghz.

If you're using the P6T SE, I would just get the G.Skill F3-12800CL7T-6GBPI. This will keep CPU temps and stress low, to allow for better overclocking. Your system should be very fast!

newegg is out of F3-12800CL7T-6GBPI, have they been discontinued? It looks like there's a new F3-12800CL6T-6GBPI that runs at 6-8-6-20-2n at 1.6 volts...will it work at 1.5v with the same settings as the F3-12800CL7T-6GBPI?

Yes, those will work at the same settings. The CL7 is just temporarily out of stock.

wait why can't you run 2000 on P6T motherboard? I'm actually trying that without success. would like to know if this is proven so i don't need to try anymore.

It is difficult on the P6T vanilla motherboard especially. This is why they came out with so many later revision models that better support DDR3-2000 such as the Deluxe, Deluxe V2 (2000 approved), and other models that are made much better to support high memory frequencies.
