  • 6gig to start then 12gig later on Rampage III w/ a 930

I have an Asus Rampage III Extreme.
    I have an i7 930
I?m looking into the RAM options for the board now.
    I would like to end up with a 12 gig setup 2 X 6.
    But I want to start with a 6 gig 2 x 3 setup.
Which RAM would be a better option?

Also will the Trident run at 1.5v with relaxed timings as well?

What kind or speed should I expect when going to 12 gig?s with each kit?

Rated Speed at 2000mhz with 12 Gigs?

Will i am using the PI series(12Gigs) right now with a Core i7 930 and the ran advertised speeds without a problem. I have pushed them as high as about 1760mhz and they still work fine with stock voltages. I don't know if 12 Gigs of 2000mhz would be stable but I am sure some one here could tell ya.

Those two kits are very similar, but the Trident 2000 is definitely for max performance. If you are looking for 12GB, I would stick with the PIs as Triplefoul. It will require much tweaking for 12GB at DDR3-2000. Overall performance will be the same anyway since the timings are low.

I'm not expecting to get to 2000mhz with 12 gig what do you think a resonable speed to get 12 gig up to?

Would I have better result using two Trident 6 gig kits, 2 Pi 6 gig kits, or should I just get the 12 gig pi kit?

        Thanks

Should be able to get close to DDR3-2000 with 12GB, just depending on your CPU and cooling. Keep us posted on the progress, especially if you encounter any issues.

                Great RAM follow up

On the Rampage III if I set to XMP it boot right up at 2003 Mhz. I have my system running now at 4104 for the CPU and the RAM is running at 1850 Mhz at the moment I'm using a 22 muliplayer and 188 Bclock's. I'm not going to mess to much with it ATM as I will be adding another 6 gig trident kit in the next few weeks.
