  • New ram not running to potential

I just recently upgraded my pc and after finishing the intall i noticed that my ram is only running @ 1066 MHz instead of its rated capacity. Below is my pc specs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    MOBO - ASUS P6X58D Premium
    CPU - Intel i7-930 Bloomfield
    Ram - Trident # F3-16000CL9T-6GBTD
    PSU - Thermaltake Toughpower 750w
    Video - EVGA 896-P3-1257-AR GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 Superclocked Edition 896MB
    OS - Win 7 Pro 64 Bit

    Thanks

QPI Link Data Rate - AUTO

    DRAM Timing Control
    CAS Latency - 9
    tRCD - 9
    tRP - 9
    tRAS - 24
    Command Rate - 2N

    CPU Voltage - 1.30V

I tried these settings and as soon as I hit f10 to save them my pc shut down and restarted then went to a screen that said "Overclocking Failed". From there i had to either enter setup again or restore to defaults. I reset to defauts for the time being. I noticed when entering some of the voltages that toe font color changed as I went up with them. A couple of them were in red which i am assume means exceeding safe running limits but I am new to this so just thought i would mention it.

Thanks for your time and efforts.

Load BIOS defaults and make the following changes:

        Ai Overclock Tuner - Manual
        CPU Ratio Setting - 21
        Intel SpeedStep Tech - Disabled
        BCLK Frequency - 143
        DRAM Frequency - DDR3-2000
        UCLK Frequency - 4000MHz
QPI Link Data Rate - AUTO

        DRAM Timing Control
        CAS Latency - 9
        tRCD - 9
        tRP - 9
        tRAS - 24
        Command Rate - 2N

        QPI/DRAM Core Voltage - 1.60V
        DRAM Bus Voltage - 1.60V

The high (red) voltages are necessary to operate DDR3-2000. They are just warnings against high voltage, but it perfectly fine to use.

        Thank you

I tried the second set of settings you refrenced but still got the Overclock Failed Message.
I was able to get the speed up a little along with my processor but still can't reach the 2000MHz it should be running. Below is my current Bios Settings:

          Ai Overclock Tuner - Manual
          CPU Ratio Setting - 21
          Intel SpeedStep Tech - Disabled
          BCLK Frequency - 161
          DRAM Frequency - DDR3-1614
          UCLK Frequency - 3227MHz
          QPI Link Data Rate - 5811 MT/s

          DRAM Timing Control
          DRAM CAS# Latency - 9
          DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay - 9
          DRAM RAS# PRE Time - 9
          DRAM RAS# ACT Time - 24
          DRAM Timing Mode - 2N

          CPU Voltage - 1.22500V
          CPU PLL Voltage - 1.80V
          QPI/DRAM Core Voltage - 1.26875V
          IOH Voltage - 1.18V
          IOH PCIE Voltage - 1.50V
          ICH Voltage - 1.20V
          ICH PCIE Voltage - 1.50V
          DRAM Bus Voltage - 1.64V

          Load Line Calibration - Enabled
          CPU Differental Amplitude - 900mV
CPU Clock Skew - Delay 300ps
          CPU Spread Spectrum - Disabled
          IOH Clock Skew - Auto
          PCIE Spread Spectrum - Disabled

On the DRAM Frequency my only options are as follows:

          968MHz
          1290MHz
          1614MHz
          1937MHz
          2259MHz
          2852MHz
          2905MHz

If I can even get it closer to the 2000MHz it would be awesome. Thanks for your time and efforts.

Try the same settings, but QPI/DRAM Core Voltage - 1.40V-1.50V

You will need to find the precise required voltage for your particular CPU.

            Thank you

I bumped the voltage up on the QPI/DRAM as suggested. I have it running at 1.4v. It will run fine with that setting change but as soon as i go back and try to change the DRAM freq any higher than 1614MHz i get the overclock failure.

              Thanks,

Try increasing it further, as I stated in the previous post, DDR3-1600 will require 1.40-1.50V.

                DDR3-2000 will require 1.50-1.60V

Here are the settings I last tried but with no luck.

                  BCLK - 161
DDR3 Freq - 1937 (The closest to 2000 I could pick without going over)
                  UCLK - 4035

                  CPU voltage - 1.30
                  QPI voltage - 1.60

After I hit F10 to accept and save it goes into like a shutdown/suspend mode for a sec the reboots on its own then just hangs. I have to shut it down then boot it back up and after the post screens i get the Overclock Failed message. From there i can only hit F1 to enter setup or F2 to reset to default bios settings.

Really sorry for being a pain but I would really like to get my ram running at it 2000MHz.

Try the XMP Profile, then simply set QPI/DRAM to 1.60V. F10

You're not being a pain at all, in fact, I enjoy doing this as long as you enjoy trying and giving me feedback. =)

Sorry but I am not real clear on the XMP profile. IS it something I need to DL or just a certain grp of settings. In either case where do I find it.

                      Thanks

It is a setting in BIOS. Should be under "Ai Overclock Tuner", set that to XMP Profile.

                        Thank you
