  • Gigabyte EX58 Extreme with G Skill F3-10666CL9T-3GBNQ SOS :-(

    Hi,

I have been frequently encountering blue screens in both Windows 7 Professional as well as Fedora Core 11 (Linux) on my machine. Memtest reports errors in the triple channel configuration mode, but each of the 3 modules when tested individually works fine. My configuration is:

    Intel Core i7 920 CPU
    Gigabyte EX58 Extreme Motherboard
    G.Skill F3-10666CL9T-3GB NQ memory
    nVidia Palit GTX295 GPU
    RealPower 700 W Modular SMPS

I am now using a replaced motherboard sent to me through RMA by Gigabyte. And as I said above, the memory modules seem fine. The timing setting is 9-9-9-24-2N as advised by G.Skill.

I would appreciate if someone could tell me ALL the bios settings (CAS Latency Time, tRCD, tRP, tRAS, tRC, tRRD, tWTR, tWR, tWTP, tWL, tRFC, tRTP, tFAW, Command Rate, B2B CAS Delay, Round Trip Latency) for this memory and motherboard combination. I could not find this information anywhere on the internet.

I will be happy to supply any more information.

I would be grateful if someone could help. I am a student and all my academic work is carried out on this system, and is suffering as a result of this malfunction.

    Thanks,
    Vivek.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS, then basic timings at 9-9-9-24 (entered manually...not through AUTO), DRAM voltage at 1.6, Command Timing/Rate @ 2N or 2T, the rest of your timings should be fine on AUTO, also ensure the sticks are in slots 1-3-4 the white ones (for triple channel).

If no joy, pls post your BIOS timings so we can see if anything looks wrong.

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

Thanks for replying Tradesman. I have version F9P of the bios, which is the latest version. And the RAM is indeed in the white slots (I think you meant 1-3-5). The DRAM voltage is 1.6V.

My fault, was thinking of the 58-UD3R (which I was just working on yesterday) - big thing is to enter the timings manually and get command rate/timing at 2 (N or T)....with the GB you may want to try in 2-4-6, sometimes the secondary has more stability.

Also, with 2-4-6, it won't be in triple channel configuration right?

Edit = I am due to receive another set of this memory, to upgrade to 6 GB (an earlier plan). Does your comment about "greater stability" imply that one of the 2 sets of 3 GB memory won't work eventually?

Until I figure out how to post photographs of the BIOS settings here, I am copying all the BIOS settings on various panes here. Please advise accordingly.

When I put the G.Skill memory back in, and set the timings as 9-9-9-24-2 and set the DRAM voltage as 1.60 V, I get a message on bootup which reads as follows:

The system has experienced boot failures because of overclocking or changes of voltages.

Last settings in BIOS setup may not coincide with current H/W states.

              Current CPU Speed: 2.80 GHz
              Current BCLK: 133 MHz
              Current Memory Speed: 1066 MHz

Something really crazy is happening now. When I boot the system with ONE memory module (1GB) into Windows and run the Intel Processor Identification utility, it tells me that the CPU is overclocked!

                    Here's the screenshot:
