  • Running old Tridents with new Ripjaws on X58 board

At present I have this product installed on my Rampage Gene II

    6GB G.Skill DDR3 PC3-16000 2000MHz Trident Series (9-9-9-24) Triple Channel kit

I am needing to up memory given photographic processing requirements. Now the above product is no longer sold so i am looking at:

    12GB G.Skill DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz Ripjaw Series (9-9-9-24) Triple Channel kit 3x4GB

As my upgrade option. My question is can I run these 2 sets together? I realise the existing set is 1.65v and the new set would be 1.5v.

    Is this doable or not?

    Thank you for your insights.

    Dave.

In theory your old Tridents should have no problem running at the specs of those Ripjaws, however there is no guarantee for success in mixing kits. That they are very different in module capacity/density, speed, timings, voltage and production date probably does not help either. Best of luck, if you give it a shot anyways.
