  • BSODs - is my memory bad?

    Hello,

    My specs:
Model of the motherboard: Asus Z97-A
    Model of the memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series DDR3 1600MHz (PC3-12800) 8GB (2x4GB) Dual Channel Kit (F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL)
Model of the CPU: i7 4790k

What is the problem? I built my new PC with the mobo above and the new CPU above, but using my old memory from my previous PC. It was smooth for a few weeks but now I'm getting a lovely combination of:
    SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3b)
    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA
    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    BAD_POOL_HEADER

I ran Memtest86+ overnight and it failed on the later passes, but was fine on the initals:

I disabled XMP, Intel speedstep any overvoltage things I could find on the BIOS, but its still blue screening intermittently. Sometimes Windows runs fine for several hours until it BSODs.

So, is my memory suddenly bad? It seemed to be fine on my old build until I upgraded the mobo/CPU.

    that is memtest86, not memtest86+

Test one module at a time with XMP enabled to see how that works. If a module is bad, feel free to send it in for RMA exchange:

      Hi,

I booted the software from this site:
      http://www.memtest.org/

What you see is probably a screenshot where the "+" was flashing so it did not appear for a second.

In any case, do these results tell you anything that you can share before I spend another two nights testing modules?

      Thanks for the help.

Most likely there is a problem with a module. Send them in for RMA exchange to see if a replacement works better.
