I built this system about a year ago and have been getting random freezes when I play games on it. I have updated bios to 2103 and I just enabled xmp in bios, I still dont know if this is the cause. Can someone give me advice on further adjustments I can make, I am a beginner but I'm willing to learn so any advice would be helpful. Would I be better off with another kind of ram as I use my pc mainly for gaming?

Check that you have the latest BIOS, and may want to raise VCCIO + 0.05, see if that helps stabilize...as far as for gaming, could try faster sticks, but w/ 16GB gaming increases would more likely come from a faster graphics card first, and second maybe an unlocked CPU that you can crank up
