So I've been wrestling with this issue for about a week now and am at a complete loss. Here are the specs of the system I'm trying to get to work
Gigabyte GA-EP43-UD3L Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 MHz
2 sticks of 2GB Gskill RAM (F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ)
10000 RPM 72 GB HDD
ATI Radeon x1950 PCI-E
Thermaltake 480W PSU
The issue is that when installing either Win7 or Vista, the installation will freeze on the Windows loading logo the first time it attempts to boot to the desktop. After you shut it down and attempt to restart, it will sometimes make it through the loading logo, get to the "Windows is setting your system up for the first time" screen and then reboot.
I also own a set of GSkill F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ sticks that give the same result. I've swapped hard drives, same problem.
I've been cruising forums for several days now, trying various BIOS, voltage, and timing settings. Below is a list of what I've tried recently and failed with the 2GB sticks.
I'm currently running the newest BIOS for my board (F7) and done memtest86 on both sets of RAM which came back fine. Pretty much each change I make in the BIOS, I completely reinstall the OS as to make sure nothing's corrupted on the software side.
It's getting to the point where I think the motherboard might actually be bad but I know a guy who had the exact same symptoms with an Asus motherboard and it turned out to be RAM settings. Any help that you can provide would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
