  • F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK and ASUS P5QL PRO

Motherboard: ASUS P5QL PRO (with latest BIOS Ver. 1004)
    Memory: G.SKILL F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK
    CPU: Intel Q9550 (2.83Ghz, 1333FSB)

Problem: Memory won't run at 1066 without errors (and BSOD under Windows 7 64)

I've got my P5QL Pro board (with Intel 9550 CPU) running Windows 7 64 great.... except for one minor issue. I bought 4GB of G.SKILL DDR2-1066 memory (F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK) and can't get the stuff to run without memory errors under MEMTEST 2.11 if I set the DRAM Freqency to 1066Mhz! It works with no problems at 800Mhz.

And YES, I KNOW that this ram is not on the QVL for the ASUS P5QL PRO!!! I wanted to buy something on the list, BUT there's only 1 type of 2GB ram chip on the list for 1066! (and Newegg didn't have it). I went for the G.SKILL since it's lower clocked ram WAS on the list and some other people in the Newegg reviews section had used it on my motherboard.

Anywho, I've tried various settings in the BIOS to get the stuff to work at 1066, but no dice. I tried using the settings from G.SKILL for an ASUS P5K Deluxe (http://www.gskill.com/images/images_...on%20Guide.pdf) and I still get errors. I also tried settings from here (http://www.overclock.net/intel-memor...pro-not-2.html).
Windows 7 likes to BSOD at various intervals with the ram giving errors (obviously) when set at 1066Mhz but it hums along fine at 800Mhz.

I'm NOT overclocking my CPU.. yet, just trying to get things running like they should first.
I'd like to know if anyone else has gotten this particular ram to work correctly on this motherboard, and what settings they used.

So base timings set to 5-5-5-15, command rate 2T, ram voltage 2.1, I'd kick tRFC up to 64, May also have to kick up NB a tic or two.

          Tradesman,

Tried your timings, and I thought things might work, but nada. I tried it with NB at 1.4V and it still crapped out. I might play with it some more, but things run smooth at 800mhz for now, and I sometimes need for my PC to work without BSOD...

          thanks!!!

Have you tried tRFC about 64-66? Do you have, or tried the latest BIOS 1004 8/14/2009? Can be found here:

Post up some BOIS screen shots and we can see if you are missing anything or have anything set incorrectly.

              Thank you

Here's some screenshots of my ASUS P5QL Pro BIOS (latest BIOS)

Anyone care to comment? I've tried lots of combinations, but I can't seem to get one to let this memory work at 1066.

                thanks!

Your RAM shows at 2.0 volts, try 2.1
