  • Upgrading memory on Abit IP35 Pro

About 18 months ago I built a system comprising of an Abit IP35 Pro motherboard and the Extreme2 2 x 2 GB PC6400 PQ F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ memory set. I am very pleased with its performance but would now like to increase the memory to 6 or 8GB as I am doing a lot of CAD work.

    Unfortunately, my vendor no longer stocks the original set but instead offers 'G.Skill PC2-6400 NR - 2 x 1 GB - 800 Mhz - CAS 5' or 'G.Skill PC2-6400 - 2 x 2 GB 800 MHz - CAS 4 - F2-6400CL4D-4GBPK'.

Will these work with my existing memory?

    Thanks.

They carry the F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ at NewEgg, $46.99, currently with Free Shipping (3 Day)

As to your question, you can probably get them to work but might have to relax the timings a little, given a choice I'd go with the CAS 5 set whill more closely match your sets timings
