  • AMD Phenom II X6 1075T Thuban 3.0GHz F3-14400CL9D-4GBFLS 1800mhz + ASUS M4A78T-E

Having problems. had a phenom II x2 550 and had the same freezing issues with f3-12800cl9d-4gbrl 1600mhz. now i have whats in the title and still having freezing at post and in bios. in amd overdrive the voltages are not accurate the status monitor-board status voltage is greyed out and only some times it reads the cpuvcore right. the nb is very warm to the touch and says its 1.1 vol.

oh CPU/NB speed is set in bios 1800 and ht speed. but the cpu/nb in overdrive its 2250mhz. but the cpu/nb multiplier and ht multiplier are matched at 8X's.

its stable now but a stability test will crash it. just got it back up and running after major bsods.

    my info.

the option in bios starts at 1.3 but for some reason in amd overdrive says 1.1. it will not reboot now. no amount of hitting reset button will start post. all fans are at idle. through experience the only way to get post again is to pull the arm on the cpu and unlatch it then put the arm back down. then it will post again. i'm thinking the bios chip is bad or nb.

just pulled all the guts out thinking it may be grounding to the chassis but after everything was back in and plugged up I started it and had the same no post result.

what would happen if I inputted these in bios?

well after thinking it may be my motherboard now I'm convinced its the memory. the 1600 and the 1800 I own. of course the specs on the amd cpu phenom IIx2 did not state that it can only read " AM3 memory controller supports both DDR2 and DDR3 memory (up to DDR2-1066 and DDR3-1333)" It cant read ddr3 1600 or 1800.

i'm running my flare at 1333 manufacturing timings 999-24-33-2t-1.5v. its stable but if I increase in bios to 1600mhz while everything is default it freezes. it was freezing in bios while setting things.

made a disturbing discovery. the ht voltage in bios says it starts at 1.3 but its not. I bumped it up and it showed up in amd-od as 1.2. so in bios i knocked it up to 1.36 which read in amd-od as 1.26 ht volts. after my hd is backed up I will jump straight to 225 cpu bus freq which will put my ram at 1800mhz. everything is stable at 200mhz bus freq 1600mhz dram freq. will post my stats after the backup. on my laptop now.

Let us know what happens, you have the latest BIOS version, how about the software - the two shouldn't be reading that out of whack

I have not done a stability test yet but here is my info. at reboot after setting the cpu bus freq 225, CPU/NB speed and HT Link speed to 1800 it got past post then showed trap exception error. I reset then put the CPU/NB speed 2025 and HT Link speed to 1800. I'm in windows and online. normally by now it would freeze. hope the upped volts will do the job.

yes the most recent bios is the 3406.

Hallow numerials in voltage box with incorrect readings. SCREENSHOT

AND STILL (CPU/NB Voltage-vid-1.275) is jumping aroung from 1.275 to 1.15. dont know if it will be a problem or not everything else is stable solid numbers.

just had bsod "page fault in nonpaged area" I rebooted and turned it back down to 200mhz cpu bus freq with ram at 1600mhz.

CPU-NB Frequency should be 3x DRAM Bus Speed.

                  900MHz x 3 = CPU-NB Frequency 2700MHz for optimum performance

CPU Bus should be 270, with DRAM Frequency at DDR3-1333. With AMD systems, the DDR3-1333 memory multiplier is the best to use.

                  DRAM Frequency = 270 x 6.66 = ~DDR3-1800 CPU-NB Frequency = 270 x 10 = 2700MHz

                  My, my, how convenient.

                  Thank you

started with 240x6.66 to see if 1600mhz at 1333 would work. it posted till it got to checking nvram and hung with one long beep that never stopped. reset and entered bios to change my HT Link speed to below 2000 mhz cause I left it on auto.

now its hanging before post and will no start.

just had aSYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. tuning down my system to run at 1333 cpu bus at 200mhz just so i can get the crash dump. now it wont start. turned it off and i'll try again in a minute.

just had 2 episodes of "Repeating short beeps: Power supply or system board problem" I have a new psu then I upgraded my cpu then to gskill 1800. looks like a new mb board now. just got it online running bios default with manual dramm timings.

I was not sure if bios could be corrupted with multiple resets inside bios so I flash the bios with the same 3406 rom from a jump drive. will reboot soon to insure it will shut down and restart without issues.

if I need another board is it married to the operating system? do I have to buy another OS or can I just take out the motherboard I have now and reinstall another one and have it all as it once was?

i have had stability problems since I got this board.i guess i can write it up as learning. I started with 200mhz running at 1600mhz dram with timing 999-24-2t and had random bsods. after learning about cpu on running up to 1333 I can see how I destroyed it.

what will happen if I buy a new board just the same and replace it?

Hey there... I haven't gone through your technical specs so can't advice yet what to do, but just so you know.. having problems when memory spedds and timings are changed does *not* necessarily mean it's the memory.. it can be the cpu memory controller... not to mention the mb given the various voltage pulls etc. etc with all the various settings. I have the same mobo but useit with the simpler x2 555 but bar it's limitations on the software implementations, I have been lucky with it on the capacitators and components side.

I run my chip on 24/7 strain. torture, u name it on 4.1 GHZ no worries and the system just never feels for going up much past 45 degrees. on 4.2 however I notice the wall kick in.

Now.. I personally can imagine that with the 6 core, the MB simply is starting to feel it's limitations.. I do not trust ASUS to exactly be a hard core quality mb provider.. especially not on a mid range board as the M4A78T-E.

I am in the middle of a week long grueeling programming experience so if I am up for it over the weekend, can look at your configs and see if I can come with a proposal.. but something is obviously wrong with your layout.. so I would start with the 101 of overclocking and use it to identify the likely culprit (CPU or MB imo). COuld be ram, don't know. Since you get the mem erros, it could be ram, IMC or the memory buses on the mb.

Unfortunately it obviously is a broad spectrum.. what is your exact PSU model by the way? DOn't know if I saw it as I just perused this thread as it has my mobo

                              oops.. couldn't edit?

PS. ye so as I say.. I am darn lucky with the mobo hehe.. but my instant reaction was it's the mobo, when I read your posts. I just don't think it is ready to facilitate for not only a 6 core cpu.. but add your hefty gfx card.. and one can see a LOOOOT of power stability is needed from your mobo (and psu).
