  • Asrock Z77 Extreme4 + G. Skill 1600MHZ CL7

    CPU: 3750K (without OC !)
    RAM: F3-12800CL7D-4GBECO x 2
    MOBO: Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 + latest UEFI (1.70)
    PSU: Seasonic X-760

My CPU is non overclocked and I have standard settings on my Z77 Extreme4
I noticed that my memory is worked on 1333MHZ and higher latency.

    I have 2x4GB F3-12800CL7D-4GBECO.

I decided to set ONLY the "DRAM Frequency" on 1600MHZ from 1333MHZ and I saved these settings.
Extreme4 has done several times a restart and show error message: "The system failed to boot several times before.
You may press F2 or DEL to enter SETUP to reconfigure your system
or UEFI will continue to boot after X seconds...".

    Memory settings have not changed.

Ok, so I went back to the default settings and changed ONLY "Load XMP Settings" on XMP 1.1 Profile 1" from "Auto" and I saved these settings.
Extreme4 has done several times a restart and show error message: "The system failed to boot several times before.
You may press F2 or DEL to enter SETUP to reconfigure your system
or UEFI will continue to boot after X seconds...".

Board does not approve these two changes, restarts a few times and displays the error.

In any settings I can not force the memory to the default settings and mobo to the normal startup

    Answer from Asrock:

t could be that you have to change the voltage of the memory in order to run it at a stable speed.

The memory on the compatibility list is successfully tested, but most manufacturers buy the actual memory chips from other manufacturers, and it could be that the memory modules have other memory chips.

Our customers report the best results with Kingston memory.

Is it possible to try other memory, because it could also be bad memory.

This is normal ? ECO should work fine on 1.35V. Work well on the Asus Maximus Formula III and 0 errors in memtest86.

P.S. I set 1.35V (standard voltage) and don't want to work.
Just run them on 1.515V (stable) and XMP profile is working..

RAM is good - worked on the previous board and checked by memtest ( 0 errors).

Even on one memory will not run XMP profile.

    Help me...

They have had trouble with the BIOS on this mobo and suspect they aren't fully set for low voltage DRAM, also, if I'm reading you right (from your post - F3-12800CL7D-4GBECO x 2) you have two sets of the ECOs...so...any time you mix sets of DRAM, even of the same model it can be problematic, also XMP won't work correctly as XMP based on the individual set. I would suggest trying the DRAM at 1.45 and raise the CPUVTT to 1.15 or so. Also ensure you have the latest BIOS

ASRock had problems with their Z68 motherboards and low voltage memory also. I believe they got most of those issues cleared up, they may be working on the Z77 motherboards still

        I tried and failed

I set higher DRAM Voltage on 1.515V and XMP Profile is working I have to report it to the manufacturer, it looks to me the error in UEFI.

Hello, I have exactly the same problem. For me it works at 1.525 V.
            Nevertheless my set is F3-12800CL7D-8GBECO (4x2Go) instead of F3-12800CL7D-4GBECO x 2.
The goal of these modules was to provide an "eco" performance with less warming and less consumption.
It would be great if Asrock made an update of its bios in order to improve global XMP compatibility (microcode update ?).
It is clearly indicated that XMP profile 1.3 and 1.2 are fully compatible, but what about 1.1 ?

              Asohan,
Any time you mix sets, even with the same model it can be problematic and normally if there is a problem, it can be corrected by a little additional voltage to the DRAM and/or MC voltage, believe CPUYTT in this case. Also XMP is programmed into the sticks as a package, in this case for 2 sticks, when running 4 sticks (2 sets) XMP generally won't work, so it's normally best to turn XMP off, set it to AUTO and manually load the base timings, set CR (Command Rate) to 2T and possibly try that with stocks voltage and the take DRAM voltage up .05 to .1 if needed and raise CPUVTT up about + .05 to + .07

Thank you for your advice Tradesman, but as Piospi already said : it doesn't work
Moreover I didn't buy two sets, this is one set of 4 modules (8GBECO) which were designed to work at 1600 MHz at 7-8-7-24 (CR 2T). It worked well with XMP profile with my old MSI P55 motherboard.
Now I am waiting for a bios update from Asrock for improving RAM compatibility.

While waiting, might try 8-8-8-24, with lower than current voltage, if their BIOS won't make the adjustments to run the tight CL w/ the low voltage not alot we can do

Thank you ! 8-8-8-24 = works ! Is this a BIOS problem? I have to report to the Asrock ?

                    What is better: 7-8-7-24 + 1.515V or 8-8-8-24 with stock 1.35 V ?

The CL7 will provide better performance overall and is prob what I would run1.515 is safe both for the system and the sticks

                        Thank you !

This is a memory issue or UFEI / motherboard?

I believe more BIOS related, many, many mobos out there don't seem to regulate voltage as well as I would like, and while they may be small differences, obviously they can have a major effect if off
