  • Asus P7H57D-V EVO + 2x F3-10666CL7D-4GBRH = cold boot?

    MBO = Asus P7H57D-V EVO with latest 1204 BIOS
    RAM = 2 pairs of F3-10666CL7D-4GBRH (8 GB RAM)
    PSU = 580 W
    VGA = Nvidia 275
    Case = Antec P182 with 3 coolers
    CPU = i5 750 with Scythe Katana III

    My problem is that each pair of memory works without any error. But as soon as I put both pairs for 8 GB of RAM I get a cold boot problems as described in earlyer posts (http://gskill.us/forum/showthread.php?t=4059). Random BSOD, sometimes at Windows entering, sometimes after 3-4 minutes, mainly MEMORY MANAGMENT or PAGE FAULT IN NONPAGED AREA. Sometimes I need to restart 3-5 times to enter Windows and then I can "overload" my PC with TF2 game for 4 hours without any error. Also tryed all suggestions from G.skill stuff, manually configured BIOS, increased IMC voltage, even put low-power VGA to check if PSU is sufficient, without any USB device and still the same problem for month and a half as I bought that memory.
    I contacted Croatian distributor (LINKS) about memory exchange but they don't have any feedback from G.skill. I suggested them even to test my PC as I purchased that memory directly from them but they are somehow suspicious about that cold boot issue and say that it might be something else. Not sure if it is worth to give them my PC just to find that each pair of memory runs without any problem and charge me for that as that is what I already know.
    Any idea how to solve this, is it possible to solve this with local distributor or RMA is the only solution?

    Tx for any replay...

    ***EDIT: found the same thing here: http://gskill.us/forum/showthread.php?t=5288

    Did you test each set to confirm they work fine seperately? Post pictures of your BIOS and we can see if anything is wrong. RMA is the best solution, as you stated, most likely the local dealer will take a look and charge you without fixing the problem.

      New issue came up . I found out that secondary memory channel is not working as it should. Motherboard won't even boot if memory is either slot of secondary memory channel. Went to mobo distributor and they found out that mobo is faulty and needs to be replaced. So now I am waiting for new mobo, it could take up to 2 weeks for new mobo to arrive. I will inform you what is with memory, it could be that I even didn't have any "cold boot" issue with G.Skill memory .

        Glad to hear you were able to identify the problem. Hoepfully the new motherboard will solve your problem.

          Still no luck. Just received a brand new motherboard. Could not boot with XMP without "overclocking failed" message on 0503 BIOS. So I flashed latest 1204 BIOS and guess what - same problems jumped out again . Errors and crashes inside Windows 7 64-bit. Memtest went red at first round. And again, no boot if memory is inserted only at second memory channel.
          I don't know what to say, I used Asus motherboards since first Pentiums came out. Seems that something is bad in BIOS and I don't know what to do. First memory channel works OK but in that way I can have only 4 GB of memory and I need 8 Gb.

            Did you try both sets seperately to see if one set or one module may be defective?

              I tested both pairs with last motherboard and they worked perfectly as each pair individualy. Both pairs in function = BSODs or applicatons crashed to desktop. And if I put single DIMM in secondary channel - motherboard would not boot.
              Same thing now. I will reflash BIOS to older version just to check what would be a result. Motherbord should work with one DIMM inserted in any memory slot but I don't know what is wrong with secondary memory channel...

                So it is OK not to be able to boot with A2/B2 memory DIMM inserted. But still no clue how to make all 4 modules to work with my motherboard. I went thru every post here if there is any suggestion from G.skill tech or users, no luck at all. Turned everything ON and OFF, increased voltage, changed memory pairs and nothing. It is funny how Memtest goes without any error with one pair of memory and how it goes red with two pairs or memory. What else can I do to make all 4 DIMMs work? I really need 8 Gb of RAM in my PC...

                  Once again, I tryed all suggested options, increased chipset voltage, increased memory voltage, dropped speed from 1333 to 1066 MHz, even put additional fan to cool down memory... All the same, 4 DIMMs just don't work as it should. Problems at first boot, sometimes I need to boot 3-4 times before everything runs OK, that is even complicating a situation because I don't know if any change of BIOS settings is right or wrong, at first it looks that everything is OK and after 3-4 hours when I turn on my PC same problems appear. I don't want to overvolt or overheat something, just want 8 Gb of RAM that works. It is funny to see that F3-10666CL7D-4GBRH at Asus P7H57D-V EVO certified memory list and to have such problems.

                    I am really desperate now. I lost 2 months on memory errors, unsafe PC work, corrupted files on HDD, application crashes... Why can't I make G.skill memory to work on that Asus motherboard?
                    Worst thing is that I can boot once without any errors and run Memtest with one BIOS settings and second time get multiple Memtest errors with same BIOS settings.
                    I tryed again with XMS on and off, increased IMC voltage, dropped speed to 1066 MHz, set all to auto, set all manualy to default settings... nothing helps...

                      Go ahead and send those in for new replacements and see how the new set works.

                        Solved!

                        Went with my PC to local G.skill distributor where I bought memory. They found that my description of problems was true and that there is no solution with 4x 2Gb DDR3 to make PC to work without problems. So I asked if that memory can be changed for F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL as it is 2x 4Gb and works in 2 memory slots. So they changed memory and now everything works without any problems. I have my Windows 7 64-bit with 8 Gb of RAM and I am happy with that G.skill memory. That memory kit is a little bit slower than F3-10666CL7D but at least it is working. If I will have any money soon, maybe I will try another one kit to see how is it working with 16 Gb of RAM...

                        That local distributor was informed of this thread and thanks to you, G.skill tech and your answers, I got new memory kit witouth a need of RMA...
                        Thanks again...
